About This Place

Cafe Bernardo at Pavilions is a vibrant Californian restaurant nestled in the heart of Sacramento’s Pavilions shopping center. This charming café effortlessly blends the casual, sunlit appeal of a farmhouse-style eatery with a menu that celebrates fresh, locally sourced ingredients and bold, farm-to-fork flavors. Whether you’re stopping by for a leisurely brunch, a revitalizing breakfast, or a laid-back happy hour, Cafe Bernardo offers an atmosphere that is both welcoming and energizing, complete with inviting outdoor seating that invites you to savor your meal under the California sun.

The menu reads like a love letter to California’s eclectic culinary influences—perfectly executed with comforting yet innovative dishes. Start your day with the Cornmeal Belgian Waffle, where crisp edges give way to a tender, buttery center. If you crave savory, the Pan Roasted Mary’s Chicken Breast, gluten-free and tenderly cooked, is a revelation, bursting with juicy, herbaceous notes. For those who enjoy bold textures and flavors, the Grilled Flatiron Steak or the Skirt Steak offer robust, smoky depth that pairs impeccably with the kale & romaine Caesar’s fresh, crisp bite.

The pizzettas here elevate classic pizza with an artisanal touch. The Roasted Pear & Prosciutto Mozzarella pizzetta strikes a beautiful balance between sweet and salty, enhanced by creamy goat cheese and a hint of rosemary. Meanwhile, the Burrata & Tomato Sauce pizzetta is a vegetarian delight, featuring garlic, peppery arugula, and a drizzle of olive oil that brings out every nuanced flavor. If you're in the mood for breakfast with a twist, the Breakfast Pizza is a hearty, satisfying option.

Cafe Bernardo also takes pride in its thoughtfully crafted sandwiches, such as the Cubano—a perfect marriage of citrus roast pork, smoked ham, Jarlsberg cheese, and chipotle mayonnaise on ciabatta that brings a smoky, tangy, and creamy crescendo with every bite. The Avocado Toast, vegan and topped with toasted seeds, pickled red onion, and arugula on sour wheat toast, is both nutritious and delightfully crunchy, showcasing a modern approach to breakfast staples.

The café’s bar offers an inviting array of cocktails that, while described by some guests as modest in size, impress with fresh and balanced flavors. Indulge in a classic Gin Gimlet or a rich espresso martini alongside crispy, generous servings of their nachos—a perfect pairing for happy hour or casual outings.

Real patrons frequently praise the consistently attentive service and the cozy, friendly vibe. Lisa Watson’s heartfelt reflections paint Cafe Bernardo as a cherished spot where memories are made, and favorite flavors are shared with loved ones. Walker Bailey appreciates the excellent value and commendable hospitality, while Kimberly Weir highlights the superb happy hour experience with her delicious cocktails and nachos. Outdoor seating options also resonate with guests like Monica G H, who enjoy the calming ambiance and consistent quality of meals such as the Cuban sandwich and burger.

Whether you’re winding down after a day of shopping nearby or seeking a comforting yet refined meal, Cafe Bernardo at Pavilions stands out as a reliably delightful destination. The bright, farmhouse-inspired setting combined with a menu brimming with crave-worthy choices makes it a genuine Sacramento gem that invites you to return again and again.

I have had so many fabulous experiences here that I can’t believe I’ve not written a review before. This was one of my mom‘s favorite places to go and so going back there now reminds me so very much of her. We loved to grab a bite or hit up happy hour, especially after shopping nearby. Our service was (and still is) always good and our favorite thing to order was the trio salad sampler- you can’t go wrong with that as there are some fabulous salads to choose from. Today we did just that and ordered a bottle of brut to give a cheers in memory of our mom. It was a super busy day today however, our server Lexi was excellent- friendly and efficient and personable. It won’t never be the same without her being there, but will continue to visit to keep her spirit alive

This place is nice well maintain. It has outdoors that you are able to sit and enjoy your meal. Now the meals are good next time i will need to come since I got deep clean on my teeth but what I was able to taste it was good my burger. My husband got the Cuban sandwich and he states it was delicious. Prices are deep we are going to round it off 15 dollars for the burger plus $2 for the cheese if you want cheese and if you want fries you pay $4 more so, am I coming back? Yes. But I want breakfast though. The lady was attentive even though she was at the bar and she did a great job. We payed for our meal with the QR. Do I recommend this place? Sure, try it out. Just know you'll be paying good money.

Food is always good, farm to fork type. Service is always good. Have to get your own water tho. Atmosphere is bright, farmhouse and outdoor seating also. Cocktails taste good but in my opinion are too small and weak. If you are a moderate drinker and you want a drink to make you feel good, plan on 2 minimum cocktails or just get beer and wine. Always great food choice!

I've always enjoyed Cafe Bernardo at the Pavilions and their Berkeley Bar. Last night, we came in with a small group of 4 during their last hour, and the service and food were great. We didn't feel rushed at all. This is why I continue to support this great brand.

First time here! I walked in and was greeted immediately. Placed my order, got my coffee, sat down outside, it was a little loud inside with just a few groups of tables occupied. Outside was gorgeous! The weather, the ambiance, music, comfortable benches and chairs. Within minutes my Bernardo Benedict arrived, with a side of bacon. The food was visually pleasing and the perfect poached eggs and hollandaise sauce was on point!! I WILL BE BACK! HIGHLY RECOMMEND ANYONE TO TRY THIS PLACE!!

I can’t say enough good things about Cafe Bernardo! It is my favorite place to eat it in sac! I’ve tried most of their breakfast and brunch menu and every single thing I tried is delicious! My absolute favorite is the kimchi fried rice! It’s the one thing I always want to order because it’s so so delicious and I definitely recommend it. Atmosphere is very nice and service is good. I go there practically every Sunday and I have never been disappointed. Overall I enjoy going to Cafe Bernardo A LOT!
